Kentucky’s Alex Poythress was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for his performances vs. Duke and Lafayette.
Kentucky’s Alex Poythress, a 6-foot-7, 239-pound freshman forward from Clarksville, Tenn., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after scoring 21.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against 9th-ranked Duke and to Lafayette. Poythress had 20 points and added a team-high eight rebounds in a loss to No. 9 Duke. He then topped that performance with a 9-10 night from the field for a career-high 22 points. He became the first freshman since Brandon Knight in Feb. 2011 to have consecutive 20-point efforts.
I am sure this will be the 1st of many freshman awards for Kentucky players this season.
